PROPERTY DESCRIPTION

Sabino Recovery Rehab

Overview:

Sabino Recovery knows that high quality, effective treatment cannot be improvised. The organization crafts a targeted individualized treatment plan for clients only after thoroughly assessing and understanding the ways that alcohol, and drug addiction and trauma may have impacted clients.

CLINICALLY DRIVEN – They are privately owned which means they are able to make program and clinical decisions based on what is the best for each resident rather than having to implement decisions based on corporate profit motive. They make program and therapeutic decisions centered on the needs of the residents.

OPTIMAL INDIVIDUALIZATION – Treatment plans are developed around the very specific needs of each resident. There are no “treatment tracks” which means that every resident’s treatment plan is developed after the resident arrives. Progress is closely monitored and the multi-disciplinary team makes real-time adjustments to the resident’s treatment plan.

NEUROSCIENCE – Their treatment program is shaped by the latest research in neuroscience. Each of the modalities that they employ are informed by what they know about the brain. They support healing through leveraging therapies which boost neuroplasticity – the brain’s ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections. They are unique in that they offer QEEG Brain Mapping. This additional service is a powerful tool which measures the electrical function of the brain and in turn, provides data to prioritize and optimize treatment. Based on what they find in brain mapping, they also offer neurofeedback and biofeedback.

NATUROPATHIC APPROACH – They utilize both naturopathic medicine and allopathic, or Western medicine. Their medical director is a naturopath and the use of nutraceuticals is promoted. Using nutraceuticals assists residents with healing without the use of pharmaceutical drugs. They also employ allopathic providers of psychiatric and psychology services. The two medicinal philosophies are not in conflict but rather, work closely together to provide residents maximum benefits of medical care.

INTEGRATIVE THERAPIES – Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, equine therapy, outdoor adventure therapy, massage, and acupuncture along with other integrative therapies are not adjunct treatment; they are a critical part of the clinical program. The quantity and variety of integrative offerings allows for more individualization of the treatment plan and more support for resident healing.

Their staff are carefully selected, have a wealth of experience, and are remarkably devoted to the residents they are blessed to work with every day. They are chosen not only for their experience and skill, but also for possessing a great deal of empathy and compassion, resulting in an exceptional environment for the healing of our residents.

PERSONAL, PEACEFUL, INTIMATE – Set on 110 acres of stunning and peaceful desert, their campus-style environment is safe and intimate. They keep the number of residents they treat small, so they can attend closely to each resident’s physical and emotional needs.

Treatment:

Alcoholism:

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Dual Diagnosis:

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person’s mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse:

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid Addiction:

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Levels of care:

Medically Assisted Detox:

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one’s body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Intensive Outpatient:

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Sober Living Homes:

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who’ve just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

Aftercare Support:

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn’t spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Inpatient:

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient’s individual requirements.

Intervention Services:

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict’s behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

Clinical services:

Animal Therapy:

Animal therapy (aka pet therapy or animal-assisted therapy) can be very healing, as it allows patients to bond with animals, who give unconditional love. This is particularly useful for those who suffered trauma by the hands of people, who may be able to trust and form closer attachments to animals than humans at certain stages of rehabilitation.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient’s own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Creative Arts Therapy:

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy:

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating Disorder Treatment:

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Equine Therapy:

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction. Equine assisted therapy is particularly powerful and effective in the treatment of addictions and trauma, as both are marked by detachment from others and a lack of trust in one’s self and one’s environment. Working to build connection with a horse can not only assist residents in re-grounding themselves, but can also offer the hope of forging new and trusting relationships in the world beyond treatment.

Experiential Therapy:

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing:

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist’s finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that result from disturbing life experiences. It is one of the most widely researched and validated methods used today in the treatment of trauma. EMDR is based on the premise that a disturbing experience becomes locked in the brain and stored with the same perceptions that existed at the time of the event.

Family Therapy:

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group Therapy:

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual Therapy:

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Sound Therapy:

6i0UjxyrKnU

Trauma Therapy:

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client’s past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
